Relief helps you find a bathroom in Seoul. It shows public toilets from Seoul city open data and privately owned bathrooms that are open to the public, added and maintained by users. This policy explains what information Relief collects, why, and the choices you have. Relief complies with the Personal Information Protection Act of Korea (PIPA).
1. Information we collect
Account information (only if you sign in). You can sign in with Kakao, Naver, or Apple. When you do, we receive a unique account identifier from that provider and, depending on the provider and the consent items you approve, an email address, nickname, or profile image URL. We use this to create and operate your Relief account. If you sign in with Apple, you may use Hide My Email; Relief works without your real email address.
Content you contribute. Bathroom locations you add, edits you suggest, cleanliness ratings, confirmations of other users' contributions, and your favorites list. Contributions are tied to your account and earn points and levels shown in the app.
Notification token (only if notifications are offered and you enable them). The current version of Relief does not send push notifications. If we introduce them, they will be opt-in: we would store a device push token only with your consent, and remove it if you withdraw consent or delete your account.
2. Location
Relief uses your device location for one purpose: to show bathrooms near you on the map. Location is used on your device while you use the app. We do not build a history of where you have been, and your location is not saved to your device or our servers as a movement record. When you submit a new bathroom or a rating, the coordinates of that bathroom are sent as part of the contribution, and your device location is momentarily checked to confirm you are nearby — it is not stored or logged.
3. What we do not collect
- No advertising identifiers, and no data is sold or shared for advertising.
- No contacts, photos, microphone, or camera access.
- No tracking across other companies' apps or websites.
4. How your information is used
- To operate the map and show nearby bathrooms.
- To create and manage your account and sign-in.
- To display and moderate user contributions, ratings, points, and levels.
- To deliver push notifications you have opted into, if that feature is introduced.
- To prevent abuse (for example, restricting accounts that submit false or harmful content).
5. Where your information is stored, and third parties
Account data and contributions are stored with Supabase, our hosted database and authentication provider. Supabase processes data on our behalf to operate the service; server infrastructure may be located outside Korea, in which case the transfer is made solely to provide the service you requested.
The app also uses:
- Naver Maps — to display the map. Map tiles are requested from Naver as you move the map.
- Kakao, Naver, and Apple sign-in — to authenticate you, only when you choose that provider.
- Seoul open data — the public-toilet dataset published by the Seoul Metropolitan Government. It contains facility locations, not personal information.
We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it with third parties except the service providers above, or where required by law.
6. Retention and deletion
We keep your account information and contributions while your account exists. You can delete your account at any time inside the app (Profile → Delete account). Deleting your account removes your profile and personal data from our systems without undue delay; anonymized contribution content that no longer identifies you may remain so the map stays accurate for other users. Any stored push token is deleted when you withdraw notification consent or delete your account.
7. Your rights under PIPA
You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information, or withdraw consent, at any time. You can exercise deletion directly in the app, or contact us at the address below for any request. We will respond in accordance with PIPA.
8. Children
Relief is not directed at children under 14, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 14. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
9. Security
Writes to our database go through authenticated, server-validated paths, access is restricted by row-level security, and debug logging of personal data is disabled in the released app. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information with appropriate safeguards.
10. Changes to this policy
If we make material changes, we will update this page and the effective date above, and note significant changes in the app.
